Climate impact on the growth responses of selected tree families in the tropical rainforest of Peruvian And

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na vliv klimatických podmínek na přírůst biomasy u dřevin rostoucích v rozdílném gradientu nadmořské výšky v peruánských Andách během dvou let. Nadmořská výška je rozdělena na skupinu do 2 000, 2 000–3 000 a nad 3 000 m n. m. Na výzkumné ploše byla také zaznamenávána teplota vzduchu a půdní vlhkost. Teplota vzduchu byla během roku stálá, avšak s výskytem chladných dnů v období sucha, které se přibližně vyskytovalo mezi 25.6. a 27.11. v obou letech. S nadmořskou výškou teplota klesala v průměru o 0,51 °C na 100 m. S rostoucí nadmořskou výškou bylo zaznamenáno klesání půdní vlhkosti, které se více projevovalo v období sucha v obou letech měření. S rostoucí nadmořskou výškou přírůst klesal mezi 595 a 2 031 m n. m., zatímco v nadmořské výšce s výskytem oblačnosti (2 200 m n. m.) byl naměřen opět vyšší přírůst. Nad hranicí časté oblačnosti byl naměřen nižší přírůst, ale se vzrůstajícím trendem až do nadmořské výšky 3 625 m. V období sucha a dešťů se některé čeledi chovaly odlišně. Největší průměrný přírůst byl naměřen u Fabaceae. U čeledi Clethraceae a Clusiaceae byl naměřen nižší přírůst biomasy se stejnou hodnotou v obou letech měření i přes nižší hodnoty půdní vlhkosti v roce 2021, kdy byl u většiny čeledí naměřen nižší přírůst oproti předešlému roku. To může naznačovat vyšší odolnost pomalu rostoucích stromů na změny ve vodním režimu.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis investigates the impact of climatic conditions on biomass growth in woody plants across varying altitudes in the Peruvian Andes over a two-year period. Altitudes are categorized into three groups: up to 2 000 meters, 2 000–3 000 meters, and above 3 000 meters above sea level. Additionally, air temperature and soil moisture were monitored throughout the study area. The study found that air temperature remained relatively constant throughout the year, with occasional cold days during the dry season, typically occurring between 25,6 and 27,11 in both years. Furthermore, there was a consistent decrease in temperature with increasing altitude, averaging 0,51°C per 100 meters. A decline in soil moisture was observed at higher altitudes, particularly pronounced during the dry season in both years. Biomass increment varied with altitude, with a decrease observed between 595 and 2 031 meters above sea level, followed by a higher increment at approximately 2 200 meters above sea level, where cloud cover was more frequent. Beyond the threshold of frequent cloud cover, a lower increment was measured, albeit with an increasing trend up to an altitude of 3 625 meters. Interestingly, different plant families exhibited varied responses to seasonal changes. The Fabaceae family demonstrated the greatest average increment, while the Clethraceae and Clusiaceae families exhibited lower biomass increment across both years, despite lower soil moisture values in 2021. This suggests a potential higher resistance of slow-growing trees to alterations in the water regime.
