Gender assignment to loan words with -e in German and Czech - a contrastive perspective

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis I deal with the problem of a genus assignment to the German substantives in foreign language that ends in a letter „e“. I am interested in a way, a form and the principles of getting a genus for German substantives in foreign language. For this case, I have chosen a Czech as the comparing language to investigate the way how Czech language can cope with the identical words assignment problems. In both Czech and German languages specific rules exists for a genus assignment and my task in this thesis is to find out and compare how these rules work in both languages. Because the topic of a genus assignment to the German substantives is large enough, I have only focused on the section of German substantives in foreign language that ends in a letter „e“. In the theoretical part I try to explain and clarify the main notions. I also try to elaborate the principles of a genus assignment in German and Czech languages. Then in the practical part I examine the relevance of the genus assignment principles. I also examine possibly conflicts during assignment and the way how both languages can cope with these conflicts.

Abstract:

V mé bakalářské práci se zabývám problémem přiřazováním rodu německých cizích slov na -e. Zajímá mě, jakým způsobem v němčině tato cizí podstatná jména svůj rod získávají, podle jakých principů. K tomu jsem si vybrala jako srovnávací jazyk češtinu, kde zkoumám, jakým způsobem si se stejnými slovy poradí ona. V obou jazycích existují pro přiřazování rodu určitá pravidla a já si kladu za úkol zjistit a porovnat, jak tato pravidla v obou jazycích fungují. Poněvadž je téma přiřazování rodu podstatným jménům velmi obsáhlé, zaměřila jsem jen na skupinu německých podstatných jmen cizojazyčného původu, končících na -e. V teoretické části se snažím o objasnění hlavních pojmů a vypracování principů přiřazování rodu v německém a českém jazyce. V praktické části pak zkoumám, zda-li jsou principy pro přiřazování rodu relevantní, jestli dochází ke konfliktům a pokud ano, jak si oba jazyky s těmito konflikty poradí.
