The Notion Calocagathia and the Czech Aesthetics

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Pojem kalokagathia a česká estetika“ pojednává o snaze navázání na antickou řeckou myšlenku kalokagathie v českých zemích. Představuje hlavní osobnosti a díla převážně z 19. století. V rámci svých omezení analyzuje dobový kontext a antickou kulturu ve vyústění myšlenkových tendencí tělovýchovných hnutí. Představuje ideologické snahy, etické a estetické postoje a přínosy, jejichž vlivy se nesmazatelně vryly nejen do estetiky a filozofie, ale i do dějin vývoje tělesné kultury.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis entitled „The Notion of Calocagathia and the Czech Esthetics“ focuses on the attempts to continue the Ancient Greek ideal of calocagathia in the Czech Lands. It presents the key personalities and works, mostly from the National Restoration period of the 19th century. Within its scope, the thesis analyses the period context and the culture of the Antiquity leading to the ideas of the physical-education movements and introduces the ideological strives and the ethic and aesthetic views and contributions which have left indelible marks not only in the sciences of esthetics and philosophy but also in the history of physical culture.
