Abstract:

Tato práce seznamuje čtenáře s tím, jak čeští žáci vnímají přízvuky v angličtině. Zaměřuje se na reakce žáků na úryvky mluvené angličtiny Herberta Loma, Evy Herzigové, Miloše Formana, Anny Geislerové, Susie Amy a Bena Stillera ve filmech. Je zkoumáno, odkud si žáci myslí, že dotyční mluvčí pochází, jak jejich řeči rozumí a jak moc jejich přízvuky považují za eufonické. Okrajově se práce zaměřuje i na vliv tempa řeči na odpovědi žáků. Výzkum je kvantitativní se stovkou analyzovaných odpovědí. Navíc práce poskytuje čtenáři i přehled základní teorie výslovnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis acquaints its reader with Czech pupils’ perceptions of accents in English. It focuses on the pupils’ reactions to excerpts of English by Herbert Lom, Eva Herzigová, Miloš Forman, Anna Geislerová, Susie Amy and Ben Stiller in films. It examines where the pupils think the speakers are from, how they understand their speech and how euphonic they find their accents. Marginally, the thesis also focuses on the effect of speech rate on the responses. The research is quantitative, with a hundred responses analyzed. Moreover, it provides the reader with a pronunciation theory overview.
