The consequences of long-term use of hormonal contraceptives on women's health

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce jsou důsledky dlouhodobého užívání hormonální antikoncepce (HA) na zdraví žen. Cílem práce je vytvořit ucelený přehled o hormonální antikoncepci a také jaké mohou být důsledky jejího užívání na zdraví žen. Hormonální kontracepce je v praxi víc než 50 let. HA je dnes jednou z nejúčinnějších antikoncepčních metod, kterou v České republice užívá nebo užívala většina žen. Užívání HA má mnoho pozitivních stránek, avšak i mnoho stinných, o kterých se v posledních letech hojně diskutuje. To, že užívání hormonální antikoncepce se pojí s rizikem tromboembolie, je známo více než 40 let. HA využívá dvou hormonálních komponent, a to estrogenů a progesteronu. Nejčastěji využívaným typem antikoncepce je kombinovaná hormonální antikoncepce, která obsahuje obě hormonální komponenty. Je málo známé, že gestagenní antikoncepce je starší než obvyklejší kombinovaná hormonální antikoncepce. V studii V. Pasekové a spol. (2002) bylo zjištěno, že 63,2 % lékařů tvrdí, že pacientky z dlouhodobého užívaní hormonální antikoncepce nemusí mít žádné obavy. Dlouhodobé užívání HA doporučuje svým pacientkám 91,39 % gynekologů.

Abstract:

The theme of this bachelor´s thesis are consequences of a long-term use of hormonal contraceptives and its impact on women´s health. The aim of the thesis is to create a comprehensive overview of hormonal contraceptives and possible consequences of its use on women´s health. Hormonal contraceptives have been used for more than 50 year and, currently, they are considered as one of the most effective methods of its kind which was or still is used among majority of Czech women. Using hormonal contraceptives has many positive aspects but it also has its dark sides which have been widely discussed in the past years. The fact that using hormonal contraceptives may cause thromboembolism has been known for more than 40 years. Hormonal contraceptives have two major components. These are estrogen and progesterone. The most common type of contraceptives are combined hormonal contraceptives which contain both hormonal components. It is not commonly known that gestagene contraceptives have a longer history than the classical combined hormonal contraceptives. A study by V. Paseková a spol (2002) reveals that 63,2% of doctors claim that their patients should not be afraid of a long term use of hormonal contraceptives. 91,39% of gynecologists even recommend their patients to use hormonal contraceptives on a long-term basis.
