Testing of intelligence tests on the prison population of property crime offenders

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na oblast forenzní psychologie, konkrétně na testování inteligence a výběr vhodného inteligenčního testu či skupiny testů s určitými vlastnostmi, které by byly vhodné pro použití u testování pachatelů majetkové trestné činnosti. Test byl vybírán pro následné použití ve screeningových šetřeních či jako součást baterie testů a neklade si tedy za úkol zjištění přesné struktury inteligence daného jedince. V první části práce je objasněn pojem inteligence, pojem majetkové trestné činnosti a jsou zde blíže popsané teorie, které dále specifikují vztah mezi delikvencí a inteligencí. V kapitole jsou rovněž popsány i dalších faktory, které mohou mít na delikventní chování vliv a tím také vliv na některé vlastnosti důležité pro výběr vhodného testu. Dále je uveden přehled inteligenčních testů, které je možné v našem prostředí v současné době použít. Dle určitých kritérií jsou pak z různých skupin inteligenčních testů vybrány testy tři, které jsou poté v empirické části předkládány osobám odsouzeným za majetkovou trestnou činnost a je vybírán test či skupina testů, které by byly pro použití u této specifické skupiny osob při těchto typech výzkumů nejvhodnější. Výzkum byl proveden ve věznicích Kuřim a Rapotice, kde byly vězňům předkládány tři předem vybrané inteligenční testy, každý založený na jiném principu a s jinými vlastnostmi. Výzkumný soubor byl vybrán účelově z osob, v současné době ve výkonu trestu odnětí svobody za majetkovou trestnou činnost. Přednostně byli vybíráni respondenti specializující se výhradně na majetkovou trestnou činnost s vyloučením všech osob majících v anamnéze jakoukoliv trestnou činnost násilnou. Ve výzkumu byly použity inteligenční testy BLS4-2T, LOGUS a Kohsovy kostky - jako zástupci různých skupin testů s různými vlastnostmi, dotazník subjektivního hodnocení těchto testů spolu s pozorováním výzkumníka. Ve výzkumu byla potvrzena hypotéza, že pro pachatele majetkové trestné činnosti jsou vhodnější spíše testy individuálně administrované, naopak nebyla potvrzena hypotéza, že by pro tuto skupinu pachatelů nebyly vhodné testy verbální či testy, pro jejichž úspěšné řešení je nutná znalost některých základních školních znalostí a dovedností. Kromě toho, se jako velmi vhodné ukázaly testy, které nejsou založeny na klasické podobě „tužka-papír“, ale testy, kde je s testovým materiálem manipulováno. Naopak jako nevhodné se ukázaly testy obsahující úkoly obsahující geometrické tvary či symboly. Cíl výzkumu byl splněn a věřím, že výzkumná zjištění budou pro praxi v tomto oboru přínosná.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the field of forensic psychology, specifically on the intelligence testing and selection of appropriate intelligence test or group of tests that would by suitable for testing the perpetrators of crimes against property in Czech prisons. The aim is to select a test that would not be too time consuming and would by suitable for use in screening investigations or as a part of a battery of tests and therefore its task is not to find the exact structure of intelligence of the tested individuals. In the first part of the thesis the concept of intelligence, the definition of property crime are clarified and theories that specify the relationship between delinquency and intelligence are described in detail. There is also a list of the best known intelligence tests, which can be currently used in the Czech Republic. According to certain criteria, three tests are selected from different groups of intelligence tests and in the empirical part, these tests are then presented to the perpetrators sentenced for property crimes and a type of test that would be the most suitable for use in this specific group of people in these types of studies is chosen. The research was conducted in prisons of Kuřim and Rapotice, where the three pre-selected intelligence tests, each based on a different principle with different properties, were presented to the prisoners. The research sample was selected purposefully from the persons currently imprisoned for property crimes. Prefarably were selected respondents specialized exclusively in property crimes excluding all persons which had committed any violent crime in their history. In the study, there were used intelligence tests BLS4-2T, LOGUS and Kohs cubes (as representatives of different groups of tests with different features), a questionnaire of subjective evaluation of these tests along with the researcher´s own observation. The research confirmed the hypothesis that for the perpetrators of crimes against property the tests administered individually are more suitable, on the other hand it did not confirm the hypothesis that for this groups of perpetrators verbal tests or tests that require some primary school knowledge and skills are not appropriate. In addition, it proved that tests very suitable are tests which are not based on classical form ”paper and pencil“, but where the test material is manipulated. On the contrary, as the least suitable were found tests with taks where the probands worked with geometric shapes or symbols.
