Abstract:

Majitel panství Chyše na Karlovarsku hrabě Leopold II. Lažanský (1854?1891) miloval divadlo. Deset let se pokoušel prosadit se jako herec na německojazyčných scénách v Rakousko-Uhersku a snažil se také o vlastní divadelní podnikání. V roce 1886 kandidoval jako poslanec za písecký obvod do říšské rady a po svém zvolení vstoupil do mladočeského klubu. V parlamentu proslul svou pročeskou nacionální rétorikou a různými extempore. Zemřel v 37 letech a zanechal po sobě několik nemanželských dětí. Jednou z jeho dcer byla Leopoldina Klotylda Volková (1888?1970), zvaná Ilka, která se provdala za dědičného prince Ferdinanda Josefa Lobkowicze z roudnické knížecí linie. Leopoldu II. Lažanskému bylo doposud věnováno nemnoho slovníkových hesel a jen pár dílčích studií. Pokud jde o historickou paměť, stál Leopold ve stínu svého mladšího bratra Vladimíra Lažanského, následného dědice chyšského panství. Předkládaní disertační práce je jeho první ucelenou biografií, jež stojí na bohatém heuristickém základu. Využívá převážně pramenů z rodinného archivu a archivu velkostatku, přičemž nejvíce těží z egodokumentů a dobového tisku. Hojně byly využity také písemnosti institucionálního charakteru z archivů v České republice a Rakousku. Při interpretaci pramenů používá interdisciplinární postupy, v nichž kombinuje teoretická východiska sociálních dějin, mikrohistorie, teatrologie a paměťových studií, souhrnně kulturních dějin. Cílem práce je odvyprávět individuální příběh hraběte a na jeho pozadí co nejdůkladněji vykreslit historický a společenský kontext v oblastech jeho veřejného působení, zvláště v oblasti divadelní a oblasti politické. Divadlo je přitom jedním z klíčových témat a tvoří také základní interpretační rámec této práce. Autorka se pokouší charakterizovat postavení chyšské větve hrabat Lažanských, popisuje jejich rodinné strategie, věnuje se Leopoldovým rodičům a charakterizuje jeho dětství, výchovu a vzdělání. Dále rozebírá okolnosti, které jej vedly k rozhodnutí stát se profesionálním hercem. Popisuje průběh Lažanského divadelní kariéry a analyzuje příčiny, proč se mu nepodařilo prosadit se jako herec; charakterizuje přitom dobové divadlo, a to zvláště po jeho provozní stránce. Politickou kariéru hraběte chápe vesměs jako pokračování kariéry divadelní, neboť záměrem Lažanského v první řadě bylo na sebe upozornit a poutat na sebe pozornost. Metafora divadla použitá v názvu práce tak vystihuje Lažanského teatrálnost i rozporuplnost jeho povahy. Ta se projevila i v soukromé sféře a v jeho privátním životě. Lažanský se projevoval kontroverzně i jako majorátní pán v Chyši i při řízení velkostatku. Vzájemný poměr hraběte a obyvatelů panství, jež byli převážně německé národnosti, byl napjatý až vyostřený. Komplikované byly i Lažanského vztahy rodinné a milenecké. Hrabě žil bouřlivým milostným životem a zplodil nejméně šest nemanželských potomků, přičemž dvě dcery vyrůstaly u něj na zámku. V případě Zdenky Martinové, Ilky Volkové a Leopolda Knieriema se autorce podařilo dopátrat jejich pozdějších osudů. Disertační práce reflektuje také Lažanského život po životě. Spisovatel Bruno Brehm jej učinil hlavní postavou svého románu Ein Graf spielt Theater. O Leopoldu Lažanském se zmiňuje také Karel Čapek, který pracoval jako vychovatel v rodině Vladimíra Lažanského. Leopold se též objevuje v próze Marie Šulcové Kruh mého času. Biografie Leopolda II. Lažanského je příspěvkem k poznání života šlechty v Rakousko-Uhersku. Abstract:

Count Leopold II Lažanský (1854?1891) was the owner of the Chyše estate in the Karlovy Vary region and a theatre-loving man ? to the extent that he spent more time on his hobby than on the management of the family estate. For ten years he strived to establish himself as an actor on German-language stages in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and he also attempted to start up his own theatre business. In 1886 he stood as a deputy for the Písek district in the Imperial Council and after his election joined the Club of independent Czech delegates in the Imperial Council. In the parliament, he was renowned for his pro-Bohemian nationalist speeches and occasionally inappropriate behavior. He died at the age of 37, leaving behind several illegitimate children. One of his daughters was Leopoldina Klotylda ?Ilka? Volková (1888?1970), who married the hereditary prince Ferdinand Josef Lobkowicz from the princely family line of Roudnice. Leopold II Lažanský has so far been the subject of few dictionary entries and only a couple of partial studies. As far as historical memory is concerned, Leopold stood in the shadow of his younger brother Vladimír Lažanský, the subsequent heir to the Chyše estate. This dissertation is his first comprehensive biography, and it is based on a rich heuristic foundation. Its principal sources comprise the archives of the family and the estate, and it primarily benefits from ego-documents and contemporary press. Institutional documents from archives in the Czech Republic and Austria have also been used extensively. The interpretation of the sources is based on interdisciplinary methods, combining the theoretical background of social history, microhistory, theatre studies, and memory studies ? or summarily cultural history. The work seeks to relate the individual story of the count, using it as a background to depict as thoroughly as possible the historical and social context in the areas of his public activity, especially in the theatrical and political spheres. Theatre represents one of the key themes as well as the basic interpretative framework of this dissertation. The author endeavors to characterize the position of the Chyše branch of the Lažanský family, describes their family strategies, discusses Leopold's parents and his childhood, upbringing, and education. She also examines the circumstances behind his decision to become a professional actor, describes the course of his theatrical career, and analyses why he failed to establish himself as an actor. In doing so, she characterizes the theatre of the time, particularly its operational aspects. She sees the count's political engagement as an expansion of his theatrical career since his intention was to draw and retain public attention. The theatre-related metaphor used in the title thus captures both Lažanský's theatricality and the contradictory nature of his character. This feature also manifested in his private and intimate life. His behavior proved controversial even in his role as the holder of majorate in Chyše and estate manager. The mutual attitudes between the count and the estate inhabitants, who were predominantly of German nationality, were at times strained to the point of acrimony. His family and romantic relationships were also complicated. The count enjoyed a stormy love life and fathered at least six illegitimate offspring, two of whom were raised in his chateau. In the cases of Zdenka Martina, Ilka Volková, and Leopold Knieriem, the author was able to trace their later lives. The dissertation also pursues the count?s posthumous life. He became the main character of the novel by Bruno Brehm Ein Graf spielt Theater. Leopold Lažanský is mentioned by Karel Čapek, who was employed as a tutor in the family of Vladimír Lažanský.
