Ota Janeček - A Predecessor of the New Wave in Illustration

Abstract:

Malíř a grafik Ota Janeček se řadí k významným tvůrcům moderní české ilustrace po roce 1945. Historičkou umění Blankou Stehlíkovou je považován za předchůdce tzv. nové vlny v ilustraci, která se začala na podobě knihy podílet na přelomu 50. a 60. let 20. století a přišla s novou výtvarnou koncepcí ilustrace – ustoupila od narativní ilustrace a nechala do výtvarného doprovodu knihy proniknout soudobé výtvarné trendy. I Janečkovy ilustrace vznikaly v těsné blízkosti volné tvorby a tvoří samostatný výtvarný celek. Bakalářská práce se věnuje Janečkově umělecké osobnosti, kritickému hodnocení jeho díla a zavedený pohled na jeho ilustrační tvorbu doplňuje o porovnání s výtvarným typem tzv. nové vlny v ilustraci.

Abstract:

Ota Janeček belongs among most significant painters and graphic artists of modern Czech book illustration after 1945. Art historian Blanka Stehlíková considers him to be a predecessor of the so-called New Wave in illustration starting in late 50’s and early 60’s of the 20th century which came up with a new fine art conception of illustration – left behind narrative illustration and was open to contemporary art. Janeček’s illustrations were also created in tight connections with his free art and makes up an independent complex of fine art. This bachelor’s thesis focuses at first on Janeček’s creative personality taking into account critical evaluation of his work and then mentions generally accepted critical view on his illustrations. This evaluation is completed with a comparison to the New Wave type of illustration.
