Comparison of Immanuel Kant and Classical Utilitarians

Abstract:

Práce je komparací dvou protichůdných etických směrů, klasického utilitarismu 19. století a etiky Immanuela Kanta. Práce se dělí do tří kapitol. První kapitola se zabývá klasickým utilitarismem. Nejprve jej stručně uvede, následně ukazuje původ jeho myšlení a poté jej hlouběji představí na příkladu dvou nejznámějších klasických utilitaristů: Jeremyho Benthama a Johna Stuarta Milla. Další kapitola je zaměřena na Immanuela Kanta. Stejným způsobem jako u utilitarismu probíhá členění kapitoly i u Kanta. Jako první je uvedení samotného myslitele, které nísledují předpoklady jeho myšlení, a nakonec je představení myšlení samotného Kanta. Třetí kapitola se zaměřuje na porovnání klasického utilitarismu, tedy Johna Stuarta Milla a Immanuela Kanta.

Abstract:

This thesis is a comparison of two contradictory ethical fields, classical utilitarianism of 19th century and ethics of Immanuel Kant. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is devoted to classical utilitarianism. After a short introduction, it goes into the roots of this thought and then it is presented on the example of two most well-known utilitarians: Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. Next chapter is focused on Immanuel Kant. At first there is an introduction of this philosopher, then the origins of his thought and his philosophy in the end. Third and last chapter is about comparison of classical Utilitarianism in this case of John Stuart Mill and Immanuel Kant.
