Determinants of budgeting and planning systems selection and their impact on organization behavior and performance

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá jednou z nejčastěji zkoumaných a diskutovaných technik manažerského účetnictví, rozpočetnictvím. Realizovaný výzkum reaguje na potřebu zkoumání faktorů, které ovlivňují výběr a nastavení systémů plánování a rozpočetnictví, resp. efektivitu těchto systémů. Obě tyto oblasti jsou v disertační práci analyzovány prostřednictvím kvantitativního výzkumu. Zatímco sběr dat byl uskutečněn pomocí dotazníkového šetření, testování definovaných hypotéz proběhlo na základě použití Z-testu a Pearsonova chí-kvadrát testu nezávislosti. Ve snaze o bližší pochopení determinantů systému plánování a rozpočetnictví byl do disertační práce začleněn rovněž kvalitativní výzkum. Zpracovaná případová studie detailně analyzuje jednotlivé procesy, které probíhají v rámci systému plánování a rozpočetnictví vybrané průmyslové společnosti vlastněné zahraničním koncernem. Na základě provedení polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s reprezentanty všech úrovní organizační struktury a na základě použití metody kódování výzkum vygeneroval šest klíčových teoretických konceptů, které jsou určeny k budoucímu otestování na širším vzorku podniků.

Abstract:

The submitted theses is focused on one of the most researched and discussed managerial accounting techniques, budgeting. The research emphasizes the need to examine the factors affecting the selection and setting of planning and budgeting systems, respectively effectiveness of these systems. To expand knowledge about these fields, a web-based survey was devised with the aim of gathering data, followed by hypotheses testing through application of Z-test and Pearson's chi-square test of independence. In an effort to better understanding the determinants of planning and budgeting system, the qualitative research was conducted in the following part of dissertation. The case study, as an output of the qualitative research, analyses in detail the individual processes relate to the planning and budgeting system of a selected industrial company owned by a foreign concern. Based on semi-structured interviews with representatives of all levels of the organizational structure and the use of the coding method, the research generated six key theoretical concepts that are intended for future testing on a wider sample of companies.
