Intervention on Base Rate Neglect

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou kognitivního zkreslení známého jako base rate neglect, při kterém jedinci při posuzování pravděpodobnosti zanedbávají základní míru výskytu události. Hlavním cílem této práce je zjistit účinnost vybraných intervencí na snížení base rate neglect. V teoretické části je nejprve definováno a popsáno samotné zkreslení a oblasti, ve kterých se objevuje. Následně jsou zmíněny i hlavní teorie vysvětlující vznik base rate neglect a jak ho lze snížit, případně eliminovat. V praktické části jsou prezentovány výsledky experimentu, který testoval účinnost dvou vybraných intervencí. Závěry práce naznačují, že přirozené frekvence mohou významně snížit base rate neglect, což má potenciál zlepšit rozhodovací procesy v manažerské praxi.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses the issue of the cognitive bias known as base rate neglect, where individuals ignore the base rate occurrence of an event when assessing probability. The main objective of this thesis is to determine the effectiveness of selected interventions in reducing base rate neglect. The theoretical part first defines and describes the bias itself and the areas in which it occurs. Subsequently, it mentions the main theories explaining the origin of base rate neglect and how it can be reduced or possibly eliminated. The practical part presents the results of an experiment that tested the effectiveness of two selected interventions. The findings suggest that natural frequencies can significantly reduce base rate neglect, which has the potential to improve decision-making processes in managerial practice.
