The effect of menstrual cup on nulliparous women´s ability to relax pelvic floor muscles

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na sledování schopnosti relaxace svalů pánevního dna. Testovanými subjekty jsou nullipary ve věku od 21 do 31 let, které používají menstruační kalíšek. Dále se u nich zjišťuje, zda jeho používání má vliv na bolestivost menstruace. Teoretická část se zabývá anatomií a funkcí svalů pánevního dna (SPD), menstruačním cyklem a dále specifikuje význam a použití menstruačních kalíšků. V této části je také popsáno vyšetření funkce SPD, pomocí transabdominální ultrasonografie. Praktická část se věnuje vyšetření schopnosti relaxovat svaly pánevního dna. Jsou porovnány výsledky žen, které užívají menstruační kalíšek alespoň půl roku (3 cykly) a více a žen, které užívají menstruační vložky. Podmínkou je, že ženy musí být nullipary a musí být ve věku mezi 21 a 31 let. Dále se v praktické části, pomocí výsledků z online dotazníku hodnotí, zda používání menstruačního kalíšku ovlivňuje bolestivost menstruace. Výsledky jednoznačně neprokazují, že by kalíšek měl negativní vliv na schopnost relaxace SPD, ale některé ženy, které ho používají nejsou schopny relaxovat tyto svaly. Příčina však může být jiná. Také není potvrzena hypotéza, že po zahájení používání kalíšku se zhorší menstruační bolesti. Dotazování však prokazuje, že menstruačními bolestmi trpí více ženy, které používají kalíšek než ty, které využívají jiné menstruační pomůcky. Výsledek studie dále poukazuje na to, že ženy užívající menstruační kalíšek trpí bolestmi s vyšší intenzitou než ženy, které používají jiné typy menstruačních pomůcek.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on monitoring the ability to relax the pelvic floor muscles. It is also examined whether its use affects the pain of menstruation. The theoretical part deals with the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor muscles (SPD), the menstrual cycle and also provides information about the menstrual cups. This section also describes the examination of SPD function by transabdominal ultrasonography. The practical part is devoted to examining the ability to relax the pelvic floor muscles. The results of women who use menstrual cup for at least half a year (3 cycles) and more and women who use menstrual pads will be compared. The condition is that women must be nulliparous and must be between 21 and 31 years old. Furthermore, in the practical part, the results of the online questionnaire assess whether the use of menstrual cup affects menstrual pain. The results clearly did not show that the cup had a negative effect on SPD's ability to relax, but some women using it are unable to relax these muscles. However, the cause may be different. Also, the hypothesis that menstrual pain is worse after the use of the cup is not confirmed. However, it has been shown that more women using the cup suffer from menstrual pain than women using another menstrual aids. It has also been shown on a numerical scale, that women with menstrual cups suffer from more severe pain than women with another hygiene aids.
