The burden of nurses in the care of dialysis patients during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zmapovat zátěž sester v klinické praxi v péči o dialyzované pacienty v době pandemie SARS-CoV-2. Poskytlo nám to přehled o subjektivním vnímání zátěže v péči o dialyzované pacienty v době pandemie SARS-CoV-2 ve srovnání s dobou před pandemií, co se s rozvojem pandemie SARS-CoV-2 změnilo v kvalitě péče o dialyzované pacienty z pohledu sestry a jaké obavy sestry pociťovaly v klinické praxi v důsledku pandemie SARS-CoV-2. V empirické části diplomové práce byly zpracovány výsledky kvalitativního výzkumu. Metodou sběru dat byly hloubkové polostrukturované rozhovory a participační pozorování v průběhu rozhovorů. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo dvanáct všeobecných sester z hemodialyzačních stanic Moravskoslezského kraje. Z analýzy polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a zúčastněného pozorování předloženého výzkumného šetření bylo patrné, že všeobecnými sestrami poskytovaná ošetřovatelská péče dialyzovaným pacientům v období pandemie SARS-CoV-2 se vyznačovala především vysokou mírou zátěže na psychiku. Atmosféra na pracovišti, profesionální vztah s pacienty, obavy z nákazy, náročná ošetřovatelská péče v ochranných pracovních prostředcích a změna organizace chodu pracoviště byly identifikovány jako faktory zvyšující zátěž péče o chronicky dialyzované pacienty v době pandemie SARS-CoV-2. Zjištěné výsledky přispívají ke znalostní základně problematiky zátěže všeobecných sester v klinické praxi při péči o dialyzované pacienty i v době pandemie SARS-CoV-2. V diplomové práci byla předložena doporučení pro klinickou praxi k řešení této problematiky, které mohou sloužit jako cesta ke zmírnění zátěže všeobecných sester v péči o dialyzované pacienty nejen v době pandemie SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract:

The theme of the master thesis is the workload of nurses in clinical practice in the care of dialysis patients during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. It provided us with an overview of the individual perception of the nurses about the burden in the care of dialysis patients during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period, what has changed with the development of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in terms of the quality of care for dialysis patients from the nurse's point of view and what are the nurses's concerns in their clinical practices as a result of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The results of this thorough research were processed in the empirical part of the master thesis. The method of data collection was in-depth semi-structured interviews and one on one observations during those interviews. This research group consisted of twelve general nurses from the hemodialysis stations in the region Moravskoslezsko. From the analysis of this semi-structured interviews and participant observations of the presented research survey, it was evident that the nursing care provided by general nurses to dialysis patients during the SARS-CoV2 pandemic was characterized by a high degree of psychological burden. What was found is that the atmosphere in the work place, professional relationship with patients, concerns about the virus infection, aswell because of the most difficult nursing care and the equipment needed for the working conditions and the change of organization in the work place were identified as factors in creasing the burden of care for chronically dialysis patients during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The obtained results contribute to the knowledge base of the issue of the burden of general nurses in clinical practice in the care of dialysis patient twelve during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The master thesis was presented, and this are the recommendations for clinical practice to address this issue, which it can serve as a way to alleviate the burden of nurses in the care of dialysis patients not only during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic but aswell during the day to day care of any other dialysis station.
