Extinct Spas in Slovakia and the Possibility of Their Revitalization

Abstract:

The aim of the Master’s Dissertation is to identify extinct spa places in Slovakia and evaluate their successful and unsuccessful projects that could lead to the revitalization of selected spas. The first part of the work describes the basic terminology of the spa industry and the general history of Slovak spas divided into individual periods. At the end of the theoretical part, the work discusses the existence of the spa industry in Slovakia. Five extinct spas from three adjacent tourist regions were included in the analysis of the dissertation: Liptov (Korytnica), Spiš (Turzovské kúpele, Kvetnica, and Alžbetine kúpele), and Šariš (Cemjata). These extinct spa places were subsequently analyzed from the point of view of their history, and present conditions along with the statements of the authorities and other stakeholders, and the opinions of residents on this issue were also taken into consideration. The last chapter is focused on suggestions for the future improvement of individual locations.

Abstract:

Cieľom diplomovej práce je identifikovať zaniknuté kúpeľné miesta na Slovensku a zhodnotiť ich úspešné aj neúspešné projekty, ktoré by mohli smerovať k revitalizácii vybraných kúpeľov. Prvá časť práce popisuje základnú terminológiu z oblasti kúpeľníctva a všeobecnú históriu slovenského kúpeľníctva rozdelenú do jednotlivých období. V závere teoretickej časti sa práca venuje existencii kúpeľníctva na Slovensku. Do analýzy diplomovej práce bolo zahrnutých päť zaniknutých kúpeľov z troch susedných turistických regiónov: Liptov (Korytnica), Spiš (Turzovské kúpele, Kvetnica a Alžbetine kúpele) a Šariš (Cemjata). Tieto zaniknuté kúpeľné miesta boli následne analyzované z hľadiska ich histórie, súčasného stavu spoločne s vyjadrením zainteresovaných orgánov a iných osôb a do úvahy sa brali aj názory miestneho obyvateľstva na túto problematiku. V poslednej kapitole sú uvedené návrhy pre budúce zveľaďovanie jednotlivých lokalít.
