In marriage or outside marriage? - Attitudes to fertility among young people

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem mé práce je zjistit postoje mladých lidí v České republice k plodnosti (zda upřednostňují plodit děti do manželství či mimo manželství) a odhalení míry vlivu zvolených socio-demografických ukazatelů (pohlaví, věk, vzdělání, religiozita) a rodinného prostředí na tento postoj. V teoretické části se snažím vystihnout pozadí demografické doby, ze které pochází zvolené datové soubory, a zaměřuji se na nejdůležitější koncepty související s tématem práce. Charakterizuji manželství, plodnost a jejich alternativy, dále rodinu a postoje. V této části také popisuji postoje k plodnosti zjištěné z předchozích výzkumů, z nichž tvořím předpoklady pro praktickou část. V té prostřednictvím sekundární analýzy dat z výzkumů Mladé generace 1997 a Druhého evropského srovnávacího výzkumu možných účinků populační politiky 2001 testuji hypotézy o postoji, zda mladí lidé zastávají názor plodit děti do manželství či mimo manželství, a hypotézy o existenci vztahu a míře vlivu určených faktorů na postoj. Pro rok 1997 a 2001 jsou výsledky rozdílné. Mládež v roce 1997 zastávala názor, aby se děti rodily do manželství, kdežto mládež v roce 2001 byla tolerantní k mimomanželské plodnosti, takže tento názor nezastávala. Zajímavým zjištěním je důležitost manželství pro mladé lidi v roce 1997. Největší vliv na postoj mladých měla v roce 2001 religiozita. U roku 1997 byla naměřena nejsilnější korelace mezi věkem a dosaženým vzděláním. Vztah byl také z části zjištěn u rodinného prostředí.

Abstract:

The main aim of my work is to ascertain attitudes among young people in the Czech Republic to fertility (whether young people prefer bear children in a marriage or outside marriage) and reveal the degree of influence of chosen socio-demographic characteristics (sex, age, education, religiosity) and family surrounding on this attitude. In the theoretical part, I try to capture the background of demographic time, from which the chosen data comes, and I focus on the most important concepts associated with the topic of my work. I define a marriage and fertility and their alternatives, as well as family and attitudes. In this section, I also describe attitudes to fertility ascertained in previous researches, of which I create the preconditions for the practical part. In the practical part, I test hypotheses about the attitudes whether young people are of the opinion to bear children in marriage or outside marriage, and hypotheses about the degree of influence of factors on this attitude through a secondary analysis of data from a survey of The Young generation 1997 and The Second European comparative research possible effects of population policies 2001. For the year 1997 and 2001, the results are different. In 1997, young people were of the opinion that the children should be born in a marriage, while young people in 2001 were tolerant of extramarital fertility, so they didn't advocate this view. An interesting finding is the importance of a marriage for young people in 1997. The religiosity had the biggest influence on the attitudes among young people in 2001. In the year 1997, it was recorded the strongest correlation between age and educational attainment. The relationship was also found in the family surrounding.
