New religious movements in Slovakia before 1989

Abstract:

In the presented master diploma thesis I deal with the issue of the „problematic“ period of the communist regime and its relation towards New Religious Movements. I focus primarily on the relationship between the movement of the devotees of reverend Moon and the state establishment in Czechoslovakia before 1989. In my thesis I tried to describe and evaluate this relationship and vice versa according to available materials (such as...). To the desription I include the information concerning the organizational structure of the movement, the beginnings of individual members' activities, police investigations and the final Court verdict. The thesis shows their media image according to the daily press Pravda. While focusing on the description of the case my attention was drawn to the case's figurants' argumentation. The sources for my field research are from the archieve of Ústav Pamäti Národa (Slovak Nation's Memory Institute). The sources mostly consist of records of investigations of the Devotees of Reverend Moon during 1973 – 1974.

Abstract:

V predloženej diplomovej práci sa venujem problematike obdobia komunistického režimu na území Československa. Formulácia mojej výskumnej otázky znie: V akom vzťahu k štátnemu zriadeniu spred roka 1989 figurovali nové náboženské hnutia? Svoju primárnu pozornosť orientujem na vzťah nového náboženského hnutia Stúpencov reverenda Moona ku štátnemu zriadeniu panujúcemu na území socialistického Československa. V práci som sa snažila na základe dostupných materiálov popísať ako i zhodnotiť jeho vzťah k štátnemu zriadeniu. Do popisu som zahrnula informácie počnúc organizačnou štruktúrou hnutia, začiatkami pôsobenia jednotlivých členov, vyšetrovaním až po záverečný verdikt zo strany súdu. V práci je priblížený i mediálny obraz hnutia utvorený denníkom Pravda. Počas popisu prípadu sa moja pozornosť obrátila predovšetkým na argumentáciu strán figurujúcich v súdnom procese. Podklady pre môj terénny výskum som našla v archívoch Ústavu Pamäti Národa. Podklady sú tvorené predovšetkým záznamami z vyšetrovania Stúpencov reverenda Moona, ktoré prebiehalo približne v období rokov 1973 – 1974.
