Formal patterns of derivation in Czech deadjectival verbs

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se zaměřuji na změny, které mohou provázet vznik deadjektivních kauzativ, tj. sloves s významem ‚způsobit, že se adjektivní vlastnost určitého předmětu mění v čase‘. Pozornost věnuji obzvlášť takzvanému augmentu. To je morfém, který se může nacházet v pozitivu adjektiv mezi kořenem a místem shody (např. „n“ v klidný, druhé „k“ v krátký). Augment v některých odvozených kauzativech zůstává (např. zklidnit), u jiných zaniká (např. zkrátit). Cílem této práce je popsat současné augmenty a jejich obecné chování při tvorbě kauzativ.

Abstract:

In my bachelor’s diploma thesis, I focus on changes that may accompany the formation of deadjectival causatives, i.e., verbs with the meaning ‘to cause that an adjectival property of a certain thing changes over time’. Special focus is devoted to the so-called augment, which is a morpheme that may appear in the positive degree of adjectives between the root and the agreement marker (e.g., “n” in klidný, second “k” in krátký). The augment remains in some derived causatives (e.g., zklidnit) and disappears in others (e.g., zkrátit). The aim of this thesis is to describe synchronic augments and their general behaviour in causative deriving.
