Regional disparities of German states in the years 2005-2016 with the focus on job market

Abstract:

Pracovní trh v Německu má v Evropě jedinečný průběh a je průkopníkem ve sjednocení pracovního trhu dvou rozdílných ekonomik. Tento jev stále zasahuje do života německých občanů. Rozdíly mezi východním a západním Německem jsou stále velmi aktuálním tématem. Cílem této práce je analýza regionálních disparit Německých spolkových zemí v období mezi lety 2005-2017 se zaměřením na pracovní trh. Vývoj jednotlivých regionů je zhodnocen a popsán zejména za pomoci grafů. Údaje jsou čerpány ze spolkového úřadu práce, který nabízí širokou škálu dat. Pro pochopení aktuálního vývoje nezaměstnanosti je krátce popsán vývoj do roku 2005. Za pomoci variačního koeficientu jsou porovnány regionální disparity spolkových zemí dle různých skupin od roku 2005, přičemž lze konstatovat, že se disparity mezi německými spolkovými zeměmi po zavedení Hartzových reforem začaly zvyšovat a „nůžky“ mezi zeměmi se začaly otevírat. Po finanční krizi se však vývoj disparity otočil a docházelo k jejich snižování.

Abstract:

German job market is unique in the European Union due to the unification of the job market of two different economic systems. This phenomenon is still interfering with the everyday life of German citizens. The differences between eastern and western Germany are still a big topic. The main theme of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the regional disparities of German states in the years 2005-2017 with the focus on job market. The development of the individual regions is described with the usage of graphs. The data are taken from the federal job center, which offers a wide range of data. The development of the job market prior to 2005 is shortly explained to understand the present development.The regional disparities are compared in different groups with the help of the coefficient of variation from the year 2005. It can be said that the disparities between German states have grown after the introduction of the Hartz reforms and that the „scissors” between the states started to open. After the financial crisis in 2007 the disparities started to get smaller.
