PLATO Gallery: Selected Aspects of Growth and Development in the Context of Art Gallery Operational Strategies

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na fungování a provoz městské galerie současného umění s cílem zmapovat historii, růst a vývoj galerijního uměleckého provozu v galerii PLATO. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část se skládá ze dvou kapitol, přičemž třetí kapitola je věnována praktické části. První kapitola teoretické části mapuje kulturně-historické souvislosti vzniku galerie a chronologický vývoj instituce od 90. let minulého století až po přítomnost. Práce se dále zabývá daty ze závěrečných zpráv a hospodářských rozborů instituce, které mohou sloužit jako nástroj pro lepší porozumění fungování a vývoji galerie a jeho dopadu na veřejnou a kulturní scénu. Druhá kapitola rovněž zahrnuje proměnu organizační struktury v čase a strategie, které se s řízením instituce pojí. V praktické části bylo výzkumné šetření koncipováno smíšenou formou. V kvalitativním výzkumném šetření byl uskutečněn rozhovor s ředitelem galerie PLATO. V kvantitativním výzkumném šetření bylo využito dotazníkového šetření, ve kterém respondenti subjektivně zhodnotili pracovní prostředí organizace. Výzkumný vzorek během dotazníkového šetření tvořili zaměstnanci konkrétní galerie.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the functioning and operation of the city's contemporary art gallery with the aim of mapping the history, growth and development of PLATO's art gallery operations. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part consists of two chapters, while the third chapter is devoted to the practical part. The first chapter of the theoretical part maps the cultural and historical context of the gallery's establishment and the chronological development of the institution from the 1990s to the present. The thesis also examines data from the institution's final reports, which can serve as a tool for a better understanding of the functioning and development of the gallery and its impact on the public and cultural scene. The second chapter also covers the transformation of the organizational structure over time and the strategies involved in the management of the institution. In the practical part, the research investigation was designed in a mixed-methods approach. In the qualitative research investigation, an interview was conducted with the director of the PLATO gallery. In the quantitative research investigation, a questionnaire survey was used in which respondents subjectively evaluated the working environment of the organization. The research sample during the questionnaire survey consisted of employees of a particular gallery.
