The ontological priority of the social and the role of relegion in the society

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá ontologickou prioritu sociálního, kulturní politiku a jejich vztah k Bohu a pravdě. Nejdříve zaměříme pozornost na koncept kulturní politiky, který je poněkud nejasný. Zdá se totiž, že jejím cílem není jen zvýšit míru tolerance, kterou chová jedna skupina lidí pro druhé, ale rozhodování některých ontologických otázek. Rorty se ptá, jak můžeme rozhodnout, za jakých podmínek, pokud vůbec, mohou být ontologické otázky diskutovány bez ohledu na naše sociopolitické cíle. Tuto otázka se snaží zodpovědět prostřednictvím ontologické priority sociálního. Ontologická priorita sociálního má kořeny v díle Roberta Brandoma. V tomto ohledu se zaměříme na vztah mezi ontologickou prioritou sociálního a otázkou objektivity. Ústřední tezí ontologické priority sociálního je, že veškeré otázky epistemické autority jsou otázkami sociálních praktik, nikoliv objektivních faktů. Budeme se snažit obhájit tezi, že ontologická priorita sociálního nemůže posloužit Rortyho cílům. Dalším cílem Rortyho kulturní politiky je obhajoba teze, že "diskurz o Bohu" by měl být v moderní společnosti opuštěn. Jeho hlavním argumentem je, že našim sociopolitickým cílům posloužíme lépe, když nahradíme například diskurz o Bohu diskurzem o Velkém třesku. Dojdeme k závěru, že tyto argumenty nejsou přesvědčivé a ve zbytku práce se je pokusíme napravit.

Abstract:

The thesis examinates the ontological priority of the social, cultural politics a their relationship to God and truth. Firts we deal with the koncept of the cultural politics, which is a little obscure. It seems, that acording to Rorty, its aim is not only to increasing the degree of tolerance that certain groups of people have for one another, but also to settle some ontological question. Rorty asks how do we tell when, if ever, an issue about what exists should be discussed without reference to our sociopolitical goals? He tries to answer this question by means of the ontological priority of the social. The ontological priority of the social has its roots in the work of Robert Brandom. We will focus on Brandom´s version, because it is more elaborate. In this regard our concerns will be the relationship between the ontological priority of the social and experience and the question of objectivity. The main thesis of the onotological priority of the social is, that all matters of authority or privilege, in particular epistemic authority, are matters of social practice, and not objective matters of fact. We will defend the conclusion, that the ontological priority of the social can not serve Rorty´aims. Another Rorty´s goal for cultural politics is to defend the conclusion, that "God´s talk" should be abandoned in the modern society. His main argument is: our sociopolotical goals will be better served, if we replace for example the talk about God´ creation of the Word for the Big Bang. We will find these arguments defective and rest of our thesis will be devoted to repair them.
