Konstrukce stejnopohlavních párů v seriálech Modern Family a The New Normal

This thesis will analyze the way in which same-sex couples are conceived in TV series The Modern Family and The New Normal. Also, it will explore the manners in which these pairs are "normalized"; whether the characters act or look according to some sort of a common framework in order to appear "normal" or heteronormative. Furthermore, this thesis will examine whether "anxious displacement" or more specifically "queer displacement" appears in these series. Queer displacement is a phenomenon where certain characteristics usually perceived as negative are given to supporting characters to enforce the "normality" of the main same-sex protagonists and to portray them in a better light.
Abstract:
Postavení neheterosexuálních charakterů v audiovizuálních dílech nebylo nikdy jednoduché a zobrazovaní takovýchto postav jako rodičů a také jako "průměrných" členů společnosti je poměrně novým fenoménem. Non-heterosexual characters have never had a particularly easy status in audiovisual works and depicting them as "average" members of society or placing them in a parental role is a rather recent phenomenon.
