Motives of Alienation in Alena Mornštajnovás and Jakuba Katalpas Novels

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá motivem cizosti v románech dvou českých autorek – Aleny Mornštajnové a Jakuby Katalpy. Na základě výzkumu románových postav ze tří románů zmíněných autorek, konkrétně Tiché roky (2019), Slepá mapa (2013) a Němci (2014), můžeme charakterizovat společné i odlišné znaky českého a zahraničního prostředí, jeho vliv na chování, postoje a pocity postav–cizinců. Tato práce se zejména zaměřuje na charakteristiku vybraných postav, na analýzu jejich funkcí, rolí a postavení v jednotlivých románech. Stranou však nezůstává ani psychická stránka vybraných postav. Motivy cizosti a odcizení nabývají na významu s ohledem na zjištění, že některé postavy se i v domácím prostředí cítí jako naprostí cizinci.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the motif of alienation in the novels of two Czech authors - Alena Mornštajnová and Jakuba Katalpa. Based on the research of novel characters from three novels by the mentioned authors, specifically Tiché roky (2019), Slepá mapa (2013) and Němci (2014), we can characterize the common and different features of the Czech and foreign environment, its influence on the behavior, attitudes and feelings of the characters - foreigners. This thesis mainly focuses on the characteristics of selected characters, on the analysis of their functions, roles and positions in individual novels. However, the psychological side of the selected characters is not left out either. The motifs of foreignness and alienation gain importance with regard to the finding that some characters feel like complete strangers even in their home environment.
