Health literacy among midwives as a tool of the healthcare providers management

Abstract:

Východiska: Zdravotní gramotnost je aktuální a stále se rozvíjející téma, které je zakotveno ve zdravotní politice státu. Úroveň zdravotní gramotnosti v České republice je neadekvátní a proto je důležité v rámci ošetřovatelství rozvíjet činnosti zaměřené na prevenci, podporu a udržení zdraví obyvatel. Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo analyzovat zdravotní gramotnost porodních asistentek a její souvislost se sociodemografickými údaji. Metodika: Kvantitativní výzkum byl realizován v období od října 2020 do února 2021, přičemž soubor respondentů obsahoval 97 porodních asistentek z Masarykovy nemocnice v Ústí nad Labem a Nemocnice Teplice. Byl použit standardizovaný dotazník zdravotní gramotnosti HLS - EU 47Q, který byl doplněn o sociodemografické údaje. Data byla zpracována a následně vyhodnocena v Microsoft Excel. Hypotézy byly testovány pomocí Pearsonova chí - kvadrát testu. Výsledky: Porodní asistentky disponují ze 76 % adekvátní a 24 % omezenou úrovní zdravotní gramotnosti. Nejméně příznivých hodnot bylo dosaženo v oblasti podpory zdraví. Potvrdil se statisticky významný vztah nejen mezi BMI a úrovní zdravotní gramotnosti, ale také mezi dosaženým vzděláním a úrovní zdravotní gramotnosti porodních asistentek. Významný je také vliv věku na úroveň zdravotní gramotnosti a vztah mezi subjektivním zdravotním stavem a úrovní zdravotní gramotnosti porodních asistentek. Závěr: Většina porodních asistentek je adekvátně zdravotně gramotná. Díky síle komunity je ošetřovatelství vhodným nástrojem zahrnujícím nejen edukační činnost, ale také prevenci, udržení a podporu zdraví. Koncept zdravotní gramotnosti výše zmíněné úkoly splňuje, a proto by měl být zařazen do vzdělávacích osnov porodní asistence.

Abstract:

Background: Health literacy is recent and developing topic, which is saved in the health policy of the state. The level of health literacy in the Czech Republic is inadequate and therefore it is important through nursing developing activities aimed at the prevention, support, and maintenance of the health of the population. Aims: The aim of the diploma thesis was to analyze the health literacy of midwives and its connection with sociodemographic characteristics. Methods: Quantitative research was conducted from October 2020 to February 2021, with a set of respondents including 97 midwives from Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem and Teplice Hospital. The standardized health literacy questionnaire HLS - EU 47Q was used, which was supplemented with sociodemographic data. The data were processed and subsequently evaluated in Microsoft Excel. The hypotheses were tested using Person's Chi-square. Results: Midwives have a 76% adequate and 24% limited level of health literacy. The most critical values were achieved in the area of health promotion. A statistically significant relationship was confirmed not only between BMI and the level of health literacy but also between the achieved education and the level of health literacy of midwives. The influence of age on the level of health literacy of midwives and the relationship between subjective health status and the level of health literacy of midwives is also significant. Conclusion: Most midwives are adequately health literate. Thanks to the strength of the community, nursing is a suitable tool that includes not only educational activities but also prevention, maintenance, and support of health. The concept of health literacy fulfills the above-mentioned tasks and should therefore be included in the midwifery curriculum.
