The Medieval Exegesis of the Verse 1,4-5 of the Song of Songs

Abstract:

Píseň Písní představuje ve výkladové tradici Písma určitý fenomén. Křesťanští exegeti jí už od nejstarších dob věnovali velkou pozornost - Velepíseň byla dokonce druhou nejčastěji interpretovanou biblickou knihou ve středověku. Vnímání Písně písní se vyvíjelo a její text byl zasazován do různých kontextů. Tato práce sleduje vývoj chápání veršů 1,4-1,5 Písně písní v nejvlivnějších latinských komentářích v období od 3. až do začátku 12. století v nejvlivnějších dílech středověku. Jedná se o exegeze Órigena, Řehoře Velikého, Bedy Ctihodného, Alkuina z Yorku a Řádné glosy.

Abstract:

The Song of Songs represents a certain phenomenon in the tradition of the medieval interpretation. The Christian exegetes are paying high attention to the Song of Songs from the very beginning - in fact the Song of Songs is the second most interpreted book from the Bible. The perception of the Song of Songs changed in the course of the centuries and it's text has been put into various contexts. This work studies the perception of the Song of Songs from the 3th to the beginning of the 12th century in the most influential works of the medieval era. It focuses on the works of Origen, Gregorius Magnus, Beda Venerabilis, Alcuin of York and Glossa ordinaria.
