The Phenomenon of Private Sales Galleries in the 21st century in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce s názvem „Fenomén soukromých prodejních galerií ve 21. století v České republice“ se zabývá galerijním systémem a jeho současným fungováním v rámci sociokulturního a historického prostředí České republiky. V práci jsou představeny postupně jednotlivé typy galerijních institucí, které se zabývají, výhradně či částečně, obchodem s uměním. Rozlišeny jsou jednak podle celkového způsobu vedení subjektu na galerie mezinárodního typu a galerie lokální. Dále je blíže řešen první typ galerií, který je rozdělen dle shodných rysů na zakladatelskou generaci a generaci následující. Rovněž typy galerií vzniklých ze soukromého mecenátu a galerie hybridní jsou zhodnoceny z hlediska tématu práce. Dále jsou v práci řešeny možné střety zájmů prodejních galerií a aukčních domů stejně jako vzájemný vztah komerčních galerií a veletrhů umění. Následně jsou ukázány odlišnosti českého galerijního trhu v rámci historického vývoje, ale také paralely se zahraničním uměleckým galerijním systémem a trhem s uměním. V závěru práce je nastíněn možný další vývoj soukromých prodejních galerií v České republice.

Abstract:

The thesis with the title "The Phenomenon of Private Sales Galleries in the 21st century in the Czech Republic" deals with a gallery system and its present functioning within the socio - cultural and historical environment in the Czech Republic. The paper progressively introduces each type of gallery institutions that deal exclusively or partially with the art markets. The galleries are distinguished by the method of management of such entity on two main types - international gallery and local gallery. The first type of the galleries is discussed in detail further in the thesis; it is divided, according to the similar features, on the founding generation of the galleries and the following generation. The types of the galleries arising from the private patronage and the hybrid galleries are also evaluated in the work. The thesis is discussing possible conflicts of interest of sales galleries and auction houses as well as the relationship between commercial galleries and art fairs. The differences of Czech gallery market in the historical development are described subsequently as well as the parallels with the foreign art gallery system and the art market. The conclusion of the thesis outlines possible future development of private sales galleries in the Czech Republic.
