Descartes's and Popper's Interactionism

Abstract:

The bachelor diploma thesis "Descartes's and Popper's Interactionism" deals with the field of philosophy concerning the relation between the body and the mind - i.e. the psychophysical problem. The aim of this thesis is to introduce two major conceptions (Descarte's and Popper's), which understand the relation of the mind and the body as an interaction of two different and equal entities. At the beginning there is paid huge attention to the mataphysical conceptions of both of the philosophers which later appear to be fundamental for their solutions of the psychophysical problem. One of the lines of the thesis is a polemics between the physicalist attitude towards the psychophysical problem, which onologically reduces reality to the physical level and hence closes it causally; the other line is Descartes's dualist (resp. Popper's triadic) attitude which especially in Popper's case allows - by means of specifical embracement of reality - to open the physical level causally. This in Popper's case leads to a certain explanatory advantage in comparison with other mentioned conceptions.

Abstract:

Bakalárska diplomová práca "Interakcionizmus u Descarta a Poppera" sa zameriava na oblasť filozofie mysle venujúcej sa vzťahu mysle a tela, tiež nazývanej ako psychofyzický problém. Cieľom práce je predstaviť dve významné koncepcie (Descartovu a Popperovu), ktoré vzťah mysle a tela chápu ako interakciu dvoch rozdielnych a rovnocenných entít. Veľká pozornosť je spočiatku venovaná metafyzickým koncepciám skutočnosti oboch predstaviteľov, ktoré sa neskôr ukazujú ako zásadné pre ich riešenie psychofyzického problému. Jednou z línií práce je polemika medzi fyzikalistickým prístupom k psychofyzickému problému, ktorý skutočnosť ontologicky redukuje na fyzickú úroveň a kauzálne ju tak uzatvára a dualistickým (Descartes), resp. triadickým (Popper) prístupom, ktorý najmä u Poppera umožňuje, prostredníctvom špecifického ponímania reality, fyzickú úroveň kauzálne otvoriť. To u Poppera vedie k určitej explanačnej výhode oproti ostatným uvedeným koncepciám.
