Assessment of use of the Jihlava River sediments

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to determine the composition of sediments of river Jihlava by X-ray fluorescence analysis. The sediments of the river bind relatively large number of organic and inorganic pollutants on themselves, therefore it is necessary to evaluate the potentially dangerous substances when they are being mined. The consequent manipulation is governed by a number of regulations, ordinances and methodologies that are always clear. In this thesis, I dealt with elemental composition of river sediments, which were obtained by gamma spectrometry, granulometric analysis and measuring of total organic carbon. The practical section evaluates samples results from 6 sampling points along the river Jihlava in the section Jihlava – Nové Mlýny and 4 samples from the Bílina river. It came to the concentration increase of elements as chromium, nickel, zinc, thorium, lead and vanadium at the measured locations along the Jihlava river.Concentrations of elements as zinc and lead increased on the Bilina river. The results showed that both rivers have increased concentrations of monitored risk elements and substances of river sediments, which concentrations limits are stated by applicable legislation. Based on this results sediments are waste. Therefore extracted sediments shouldn't be used on the agricultural soils.

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo stanovit prvkové složení dnových sedimentů řeky Jihlavy, a to především pomocí röntgen-fluorescenční analýzy. Říční sedimenty na sebe vážou poměrně velké množství organických i anorganických polutantů, a proto je potřebné při jejich odtěžování hodnotit obsah potencinálně nebezpečných látek. Následná manipulace se proto řídí celou řadou nařízení, vyhlášek a metodik, které jsou vždy jednoznačné. V práci jsem se zaobírala prvkovým složením říčních sedimentů, které byly získané pomocí röntgen-fluorescenční metody, gamaspektrometrické analýzy, dále byla provedená zrnitostní analýza a stanovený celkový organický uhlík. Praktická část vyhodnocuje výsledky vzorků z 6 odběrových míst po směru toku řeky Jihlavy v úseku Jihlava – Nové Mlýny, a 4 vzorků z řeky Bíliny. Na měřených lokalitách podél toku řeky Jihlavy došlo ke zvýšení obsahů prvků, konkrétně chromu, niklu, zinku, thoria a vanadu. Na řece Bílině byly zvýšené koncentrace prvků zinku a olova. Výsledky prokázaly, že obě řeky mají zvýšené koncentrace sledovaných rizikových prvků a látek říčních sedimentů, jejichž limitní koncentrace udává platná legislativa. Na základě těchto výsledků jsou sedimenty odpadem. Potencionálně vytěžené sedimenty by proto nemohly být využívány na zemědělských půdach.
