Salvador Dalí, His Life and Surrealistic Work. Interpretations

Abstract:

The main purpose of this bachelor thesis is to present to its readers one of the most significant figures of the Spanish surrealistic movement Salvador Dalí. Primarily, we will focus on the evolution of his artistic carrer and the interpretation of selected works of art. In the first chapter, we will define the dadaism which is considered to be the predecessor of the surrealistic movement. We will explain the origin and the main goals as well as the characteristic features of dadaism in art. The second part deals with the description of surrealism concerning not only the etymology of its term, the features and the historical development but also the contribution of Sigmund Freud to the origin and expansion of the movement. Moreover, at the end of the chapter we can compare different features from the fields of literature and fine arts. The third part will depict the biography of the Catalan surrealistic painter Salvador Dalí paying attention not only on a personal but also on a professional life in terms of the evolution of his artistic career. The last part of the thesis will focus on the interpretation of works of art of Salvador Dalí mentioned within the preceding chapter. We will describe the main themes and features in selected works of the Catalan painter.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je představit jejim čtenářům jednu z nejvýznamnějších osobností španělského surrealistického hnutí Salvadora Dalího. Zaměříme se především na vývoj malíře v oblasti jeho umělecké kariéry a následnou interpretaci vybraných uměleckých děl. V první kapitole definujeme dadaistický směr, který bývá považován za předchůdce surrealistického hnutí. Vysvětlíme si původ a hlavní záměr dadaistů stejně jako jeho typické znaky v umění. Druhou část práce věnujeme charakteristice surrealismu týkající se nejen etymologie pojmu, znakům a historickému vývoji směru, ale také přínosu Sigmunda Freuda na vznik a rozvoj hnutí. V závěru kapitoly budeme moci porovnat odlišné znaky surrealismu v oblasti literatury a výtvarného umění. Třetí část práce přibližuje čtenářům biografii katalánského surrealistického malíře Salvadora Dalího zaměřující se nejen na osobní, ale i profesní život v rámci vývoje jeho umělecké kariéry. Poslední kapitola se zabývá interpretací uměleckých děl Salvadora Dalího zmíněných v rámci předchozí části práce. Nastíníme hlavní motivy, znaky a myšlenky ve vybraných dílech katalánského malíře.
