Destabilizing of Neighbour States as an Instrument of Russian Foreign Policy: Case of Ukraine

Abstract:

Svržení prezidenta Viktora Janukovyče a nástup silně proevropské vlády znamenal odklon od „orbitu“ Ruské federace. Z hlediska logiky civilizacionistické teorie se proto jeví jako pochopitelné, že Moskva zahájila proti svému západnímu sousedovi takový postup, který se tuto situaci snaží zvrátit, nebo alespoň Ukrajinu neutralizovat a zabránit stavu „nepřítele před branami“. Tato práce mapuje nástroje, které Rusko vůči svému sousedovi nasazuje, přičemž jako teoretický rámec využívá koncept hybridní války. Cílem práce přitom není jen analyzovat postup Ruska, nýbrž i zhodnotit využitý koncept, který by bylo lze posléze využít i pro jiné případy takového jednání.

Abstract:

The overthrow of president Yanukovych and the forming of strongly pro-European government meant a departure of Russian Federation from its original “orbit”. From the logical viewpoint of civilisationism theory it therefore seems understandable that Moscow initiated such an approach against its western neighbour, which strives to reverse the situation or, at least, neutralise Ukraine and prevent the state of “enemy at the gates”. This thesis examines the tools that Russia deploys against its neighbour and using the hybrid warfare concept as a theoretical framework. The aim of the thesis is not only to map the doings of Russia, but also to evaluate the concept, which would be usable also in later cases of such doings.
