The expierence of young men with the rites of passage in the context of male identity

Abstract:

Autor se ve své disertační práci zaměřil na zkušenost mladých mužů s přechodovými rituály v kontextu mužské identity, konkrétně absolventů Brány dospělosti, pořádaného Centrem pro rodinu v Litoměřicích. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jaké mají mladí muži, kteří věkově prošli z fáze adolescence do fáze mladé dospělosti, zkušenosti s přechodovými rituály a jaký mají vliv na utváření jejich identity. První část práce má teoretický charakter a autor v ní především vymezuje sociální konstrukci jako své základní východisko, dále představuje proměny a problémy současného mladého člověka (muže) a identitu jako úkol. Z dalších tří kapitol: Význam rituálů v cestě za mužstvím, Diverzifikace ideálů maskulinních identit v postmoderní době a Rituál jako metoda (technika) v sociální práci s mladými muži, vzešly dílčí výzkumné otázky zaměřené na funkce rituálu, typy mužské identity a stádia přechodového rituálu. Ve druhé části práce autor podává rozbor výsledků výzkumu, který provedl se šesti absolventy Brány dospělosti. Výzkum byl založený na kvalitativní strategii, konkrétně na metodě interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že na utváření mužské identity měly největší vliv zkušenosti s přechodovými rituály, ať už na Bráně dospělosti a víkendech, v církevních obřadech a společenstvích či ve skautu, které disponovaly sociálním rozměrem. Nejvíce zkušeností učinili respondenti s komunikační funkcí rituálů, typem identity „zženštilého“ a usmířeného“ muže a se stádii přechodového rituálu Dřímota konvenčního myšlení, Disciplína a trénink a Vyvrcholení výpravy.

Abstract:

Author of this dissertation focuses on experiences of young men with the rites of passage in the context of male identity, specifically on those who went through the “Adulthood gate”, organized by the Family Centre in Litoměřice. The goal of this dissertation is to find out what experience with the rites of passage of young males from the phase of adolescence to the phase of young adulthood and what impact the above had on forming of their identity. The first part of the dissertation is of a theoretical character and the social construct is used as the basis of this dissertation. Further on it speaks of the changes and problems of present young person (a man) and the identity as a goal. From the next three chapters: The importance of rites in the way to manhood, Diversification of ideals of masculine identities in the postmodern age and the Rite as a method (technique) in social work with young men, arose questions focused on the function of the rite, types of male identity and the stages of the rites of passage. In the second part of the dissertation an analysis of results from research conducted with six participants of the “Adulthood gate”. The research was based on a qualitative strategy, specifically on the method of interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results have shown, that the biggest impact on forming of the male identity was the experience with rites of passage, be it at the “Adulthood gate” and during weekends, in church ceremonies and clubs that had a social dimension. The biggest experience was gained from the communication function of the rites, the type of identity of “sissy and reconciled” man with the stages of the transition rites called Slumber of the conventional thinking, Discipline and training and the Conclusion of the journey.
