Dying and Death as a Part of Human Life

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce seznamuje čtenáře s problematikou tabuizovaného tématu smrti a možnostmi ovlivnění kvality života v jeho terminálním stadiu. Zaměřuje se na hospicovou péči o umírající, a jak co nelépe zkvalitnit poslední chvíle života člověka. Cílem je čtenáři ukázat, že smrt je přirozenou součástí lidského života. Teoretická část po vymezení základních pojmů představuje možnosti hospicové péče a způsoby jejího využití. Praktická část se snaží prostřednictvím kvantitativního výzkumu zjistit, zda jsou lidé dostatečně informování v této problematice a jestli má informovanost vliv na jejich pohled na umírání a smrt i na pomoc blízkým v nelehké situaci posledních dnů.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis presents the reader the taboo topic of death and how the quality of life in its terminal state can be influenced. It focuses on hospice care of dying patients and how their last days can be improved. The aim is to show the reader that death is a natural part of human life and dying is only the last part of it. The theoretical part at first describes essential terms and then introduces the possibilities of hospice care and the ways to use them. Based on a quantitative research, the practical part tries to find out whether people are informed enough in this field and if their awareness of the topic influences their opinion about dying and death or helping their loved ones in an uneasy situation of their last days.
