Bank stress testing

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou zátěžového testování v oblasti bankovnictví. Práce je rozdělena na dvě hlavní části. První část podrobně charakterizuje zátěžové testy jako analytický nástroj k hodnocení odolnosti finančních institucí v bankovním sektoru. Obsahuje podrobné informace o jejich vývoji, klasifikaci, procesu a konstrukci. Kapitoly věnované metodologii jednotlivých rizik zvlášť popisují nejpoužívanější postupy měření v zátěžových testech. Dále je zde zmíněn jejich rostoucí význam v oblasti bankovní regulace a dohledu v konceptu Basel II/Basel III. Druhá část práce se detailně věnuje evropským zátěžovým testům s důrazem na poslední test z roku 2014. Obsahuje také základní popis evropské dohledové architektury a shrnutí předcházejících testů z let 2009, 2010 a 2011. Poslední kapitola se věnuje budoucím krokům v oblasti zátěžového testování EU a nastiňuje možné cesty k jeho zlepšení.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with the concept of stress testing in banking sector. It consists of two major parts. The first describes stress tests in detail as an analytical tool used to assess stability and soundness of financial institutions. Information about stress testing evolution, classification, process and construction is here provided. Sections dedicated to individual risks methodologies include the most frequent measurement techniques. Furthermore, the importance of stress testing is increasing as mentioned in the context of basel ii/basel iii. The second part of this thesis deals with the topic of European-wide stress tests with the emphasis on the most recent test from 2014. It also includes the basic information about european financial supervision system and summary of the previous stress tests held in 2009,2010 and 2011. The last chapter describes future steps for EU-wide stress testing concept and suggests some aspects of possible improvements.
