JPEG2000 Region of Interest Image Compression

Abstract:

Zaměřením této práce je návrh metody pro kompresi obrázků využívající JPEG 2000 a automatickou segmentaci obrázku pro specifikaci oblasti zájmu. To se skládá z prozkoumání existujících knihoven implementujících JPEG 2000 a jejich možností kódování obrázku s oblastí zájmu. Druhá část práce se zaměřuje na segmentační metody, zvláště pak metody Otsu a SRM. Cílem je automaticky vytvořit černobílou masku s využitím těchto segmentačních metod, která bude při kompresi obrázku využita jako oblast zájmu. Obrázky vytvořené tímto způsobem jsou následně porovnány s originálním obrázkem a zjišťuje se, která z navržených metod je vhodnější pro použití.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to propose a method for image compression utilizing JPEG 2000 and automatic image segmentation for specifying region of interest. This consists of exploring existing libraries implementing JPEG 2000 and their possibilities for encoding an image with region of interest. The second part of this thesis focuses on segmentation methods, especially Otsu's method and SRM. The goal is to automatically create a black-and-white image using the segmentation methods that would be used as region of interest during the compression. Images produced that way are then compared against each other in order to determine which proposed method is more suitable for further use. At the end the results are evaluated.
