The Mittenwald Carnival

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis titled Der Mittenwalder Fasching – Eine kulturwissenschaftliche Annäherung, therefore in English The Mittenwald Carnival – an approach in cultural studies. The first part deals with the development of the tradition of Carnival in Germany (from the Roman Empire through the Reformation to the Enlightenment) and the varieties of individual denominations for this annual event. The second part of this thesis describes the traditional course of the Mittenwald Carnival and its development since 1880, which is being analysed by comparing various literature resources, especially newspapers and local chronicles.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce nese název Der Mittenwalder Fasching - eine kulturwissenschaftliche Annäherung, v češtině tedy Masopust v Mittenwaldu - kulturně-historická rešerše. První část se zabývá vývojem tradice masopustu v Německu (od dob Říše Římské přes období reformace až k osvícenství) a různorodostí jednotlivých pojmenování pro tuto každoroční událost. Druhá část práce popisuje tradiční průběh masopustu ve městě Mittenwald a jeho vývoj od roku 1880, který je analyzován porovnáváním různých literárních pramenů, převážně novinových článků a lokálních kronik.
