Media depiction of referendum on the protection of family in Slovakia in 2015 in weekly newspaper Katolícke noviny

Abstract:

Diploma thesis is dealing with analysis of media depiction of referendum on the protection of family made on February 7 in 2015 that should point at the family protection, marriage and children in the official Slovak Christian weekly Katolícke noviny. Aim of the thesis is to analyze principles and mechanisms of this media picture focusing on the search of discursive strategies. They are used in chosen texts of Katolícke noviny for construction of family ideology during the term of referendum on the protection of family. The work is based on aconcept of social and media construction of reality, atheory of stereotyping and representation and Modi operandi of ideology by J. B. Thompson. The research is targetting on the analysis and interpretation of these texts about referendum while it is based on the qualitative method of discourse analysis by J. P. Gee suggesting seven fields in the construction of reality.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá analýzou mediálneho obrazu Referenda oochrane rodiny, uskutočnené 7. februára 2015, ktoré malo poukázať na ochranu rodiny, manželstva a detí vslovenskom kresťanskom týždenníku Katolícke noviny. Cieľom práce je analyzovať princípy a mechanizmy tohto mediálneho obrazu so zreteľom na hľadanie diskurzívnych stratégií, ktoré sú v zvolených mediálnych textoch Katolíckych novín použité pre konštrukciu ideológie rodiny počas obdobia plebiscitu o ochrane rodiny. V teoretickej časti sa práca opiera o koncept sociálnej a mediálnej konštrukcie reality, o teóriu stereotypizácie a reprezentácie a o mody operandi ideológie podľa J. B. Thompsona. Výskumná časť práce je zameraná na analýzu a interpretáciu zvolených textov o referende, pričom vychádza z kvalitatívnej metódy diskurzívnej analýzy J. P. Geeho, ktorý vo svojom modeli navrhuje sedem oblastí konštrukcie reality.
