The relationship of humans to nature in selected Czech prose and poetry, examined through the lens of contemporary ecocriticism

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská diplomová práce nastiňuje základní stanoviska současné ekokritiky, včetně jejího ohlasu v českém prostředí a odvětví, které se tematicky věnuje hmotě a jejímu působení, a totiž materiální ekokritiky. Na její postoje poté na-váže hlubinná ekologie, jež svým přesahem propojí nejen nový materialismus a literaturu, ale i kognitivní vědy a filozofii jazyka. Prizmatem těchto vědních disciplín se následně pokusím o analýzu několika vybraných literárních děl současné české prózy a poezie, přičemž se budu zabývat nejen vztahem člověka k přírodě, ale i postavením mimolidského světa ve fikčních světech nebo úlohou fyzické stránky literárního textu.

Abstract:

The submitted bachelor's thesis outlines the basic positions of contemporary ecocriticism, including its resonance in the Czech environment and the field that thematically deals to matter and its effects - material ecocriticism. Its positions will then be followed by deep ecology, which will link not only new materialism and lite-rature, but also cognitive science and philosophy of language. Through the prism of these disciplines, I will then attempt to analyse a few selected literary works of con-temporary Czech prose and poetry, looking not only at the relationship between humans and nature, but also at the position of the non-human world in fictional worlds and the role of the physical aspect of the literary text.
