Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá několik fenoménů, které jsou nazvány "univerzálními principy", neboť se svým významem dotýkají každého jednotlivce, a jako takové přesahují kulturní, politické, sociální, náboženské i zeměpisné hranice. Vliv těchto univerzálních principů na život člověka je demonstrován na osudech několik literárních postav, které hrají významné role v knihách anglického spisovatele Louise de Bernièra, a to konkrétně v románech Señor Vivo a drogový baron, Nezvladatelné dítko kardinála Guzmána a Ptáci bez křídel. Základem pro zkoumání jmenovaných fenoménů se staly koncepty tzv. "nejzazších zájmů", jež byly a jsou používány existenciálními mysliteli z nejrůznějších oborů. Práce těží zejména z jejich psychologických a teologických interpretací. S tématem "nejzazších zájmů" souvisí především otázka náboženství v protikladu s osobní spiritualitou, což je další téma této práce. Problém rigidního přijímání a zejména prosazování náboženských pravd a důsledky takovéhoto chování je v práci kladen do kontrastu s humanistickými principy a koncepcí tak zvané sekulární svatosti. Práce dospívá k závěru, že jedině ochota ke hluboké osobnostní změně, odvržení narcistické sebestřednosti a příklon k angažované účasti na blahu ostatních lidí a k lásce, je cestou k prožíváné smysluplnosti vlastního života.

Abstract:

This work deals with several phenomena that I chose to call universals as they cross the cultural, political, religious and geographical borders and are common to the whole humankind. The influence of them is demonstrated on lives of several literary heroes who are playing important roles in the novels of British writer Louis de Bernières - Señor Vivo and the Coca Lord, The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman and Birds without Wings. The basis for the inquiry into mentioned phenomena is created by “ultimate concerns” – conceptions that were and are used by existential thinkers of all kinds. The work makes use especially of their psychological and theological interpretations. The conception of ultimate concern(s) is closely associated with the problem of certain contrast between institutional religion and personal spirituality. Obedient acceptation of rigid dogmas is put in contrast with humanistic principles and conception of so called secular saintliness. The aim of the work is to show that the only genuine genuine way of reaching inner equilibrium, fulfillment and, finally, the experienced feeling of meaningfulness of one's life, is engagement, solidarity and love. These qualities require profound change of perspective: from the narcissist and self-centered immaturity towards the honest interest in real development and well-being of others.
