The erosion of empathy through the use of digital technology in children

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit, jaké jsou mechanismy eroze empatie v souvislosti s nadužíváním digitálních technologií u dětí a dále, jak eroze empatie může souviset s kyberšikanou. V první kapitole je nastíněn význam empatie v životě člověka, následuje definice pojmu empatie, vymezení vztahu empatie a prosociálního chování, dále kapitola pokračuje rozvojem empatie v dětství a definicí eroze empatie. Druhá kapitola popisuje, jakým způsobem jsou digitální technologie dnešními dětmi používány. Třetí kapitola se zaměřuje na problematiku mechanismů, které přispívají k erozi empatie v souvislosti s nadměrným užíváním digitálních technologií u dětí. Čtvrtá kapitola pojednává o vztahu empatie a kyberšikany se zaměřením na prevenci kyberšikany v kontextu s rozvojem empatie. Cílem praktické části práce bylo zjistit, jak výchovní poradci šesti základních škol v Ostravě vnímají vliv užívání digitálních technologií na empatii dětí.

Abstract:

The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out what are the mechanisms of empathy erosion in relation to the overuse of digital technologies in children and how empathy erosion can be related to cyberbullying. The first chapter outlines the importance of empathy in a person's life, followed by a definition of the term empathy, defining the relationship between empathy and prosocial behaviour, then the chapter continues with the development of empathy in childhood and a definition of empathy erosion. The second chapter describes how digital technologies are used by today's children. The third chapter focuses on the mechanisms that contribute to the erosion of empathy in the context of children's overuse of digital technology. The fourth chapter discusses the relationship between empathy and cyberbullying, focusing on the prevention of cyberbullying in the context of empathy development. The aim of the practical part of the thesis was to find out how educational counsellors of six primary schools in Ostrava perceive the impact of digital technology use on children's empathy.
