Macroinvertebrate assemblages of fen streamlets in the outer part of the Western Carpathians

Abstract:

Prameništní slatiniště jsou díky přirozeně velmi stálým podmínkám prostředí, obvykle malé velikosti a relativní izolovanosti vhodným modelovým prostředím pro různé ekologické studie. Náplní této práce bylo studium společenstev vodních bezobratlých v ekologicky odlišných typech pramenných stružek v oblasti moravsko-slovenského pomezí a faktorů, které ovlivňují jejich druhové složení a rozmanitost. Celkem bylo studováno 26 permanentních, minerotrofních lokalit, na kterých bylo zjištěno 103 140 jedinců a 267 taxonů vodních bezobratlých. Druhová bohatost byla největší u řádu dvoukřídlých, nejméně taxonů bylo zaznamenáno u jepic a zástupců permanentní fauny, pijavek a měkkýšů. Na základě druhového složení byly studované stružky klasifikovány do čtyř skupiny (A, B, C, D). Ve skupinách A, B a D dominovala permanentní fauna, ve skupině C převažoval hmyz a složení společenstva se podobalo spíše společenstvu typickému pro intermitentní stružky. Byly nalezeny dva hlavní směry variability v druhových datech. Prvním byl gradient minerální bohatosti, který dělil studované lokality do dvou výrazně odlišných skupiny, na bazické (A, B, C) a kyselé (D). Shodný vliv minerální bohatosti byl ve studované oblasti prokázán např. v případě vegetace, malakofauny, krytenek nebo opaskovců a ukazuje se, že určitý vliv má i na společenstvo vodních bezobratlých. Další dělení nicméně odráželo jiné faktory. Bazická slatiniště se dále dělila především podle charakteru substrátu a také podle sezónní stálosti lokalit, která představovala druhý směr variability v datech. Ta oddělovala především částečně vysychající stružky skupiny C a stálé stružky skupiny D. Charakteristickým rysem společenstva A byl výskyt jepic vázaných na hrubý substrát těchto stružek, ve skupině D byly hojně zastoupeny acidotolerantní druhy pošvatek. Závěrem lze konstatovat, že největší vliv na složení společenstva mělo pět faktorů: konduktivita vody (na základě vyšší konduktivity vody se oddělovaly stružky skupiny A), obsah dusičnanů (A), podíl písku v substrátu (B), teplota vody (C) a hloubka vody ve stružce (D). Obecně lze říci, že v rámci studovaných stružek se specialisté vyskytovali na koncích minerálního gradientu a v jeho střední části převažovali druhy eurytopní.

Abstract:

Spring fens are suitable model habitats for different ecological studies due to a stable environment, usually small size and relative high isolation of these habitats. The main goal of this thesis was to study aquatic invertebrate assemblages in ecologically different types of streamlets in the Outer Western Carpathian Mts and to isolate most important factors affecting the structure of assemblages. Generally 26 permanent, minerotrophic sites were studied and in total 103,140 individuals from 267 taxa of aquatic invertebrates were found. Diptera was the most diverse group of macroinvertebrates, contrary to Plecoptera and representatives of non-insect fauna, Hirundinida and Mollusca, which were less represented. Four groups of streamlets were distinguished on the basis of species composition (A, B, C, D). Non-insect fauna dominated in groups A, B and D; assemblage structure in group C was rather similar to those in intermittent streams. There were two main directions of variability in our data. The first one was the gradient of mineral richness along which studied sites were separated into two distinct groups, the groups of alkaline sites (A, B, C) and the acidic one (D). The influence of the gradient of mineral richness on species composition had been previously documented for vegetation, molluscs, testaceans, and clitellates in the study area and it is obvious that there is also some influence of this gradient on aquatic invertebrates. However, further division of sites reflected other factors than groundwater mineral richness. More detail division of basic sites was based on character of substratum and also seasonal stability of sites. This was the second direction of variability in the data related to seasonal partial desiccation of several sites (group C) and rather stable conditions at the other sites (group D). The high proportion of Ephemeroptera species associated with coarse substrate was characteristic for assemblages of the group A; in group D, however, acidotolerant Plecoptera species were well presented. In conclusion, there were five most important factors affecting the studied assemblages: water conductivity (group A was separated based on a higher water conductivity), content of nitrates (A), content of sand (B), water temperature (C) and water depth in a streamlets (D). Generally, the occurrence of habitat specialists among studied habitats was typical for the ends of the mineral richness gradient, contrary to the central part where generalists were dominated.
