Comparison of manual and automated software testing

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá porovnáním manuálního a automatizovaného testování softwaru. Cílem této práce je analyzovat a zhodnotit vybrané metody na konkrétní aplikaci. Práce se skládá z teoretické a praktické části. V první, teoretické části je představeno testování softwaru. Jsou vysvětleny základní pojmy a principy testovacího procesu, jednotlivé fáze testování, role v testovacím týmu a typy testovacích technik. Dále jsou zde popsány úrovně testování softwaru a definovány nástroje pro automatizované testování. Závěrem se teoretická část zaměřuje na vícekriteriální analýzu, která je použita v praktické části. Ve druhé, praktické části práce je popsán výběr softwaru pro testování, výběr vhodných scénářů pro vybranou aplikaci a následně byly tyto scénáře implementovány do vybraných metod testování. Poté byl stanoven postup a kritéria hodnocení. Bylo provedeno samotné testování a jednotlivé metody byly ohodnoceny na základě stanovených kritérií. V závěru práce jsou identifikovány vhodné situace pro použití každé metody a formulována doporučení pro praxi.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis deals with the comparison of manual and automated software testing. The aim of this thesis is to analyze and evaluate selected testing methods on a specific application. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The first, theoretical part introduces software testing. It explains the basic concepts and principles of the testing process, the individual phases of testing, the roles in the testing team, and the main testing techniques. It also describes the levels of software testing and presents tools for automated testing. Finally, the theoretical part focuses on multi-criteria analysis, which is used in the practical part. The second, practical part of the thesis describes the selection of software for testing, the selection of suitable scenarios for the chosen application, and the subsequent implementation of these scenarios using the selected testing methods. The procedure and evaluation criteria were then established. The testing itself was carried out and the individual methods were evaluated based on the defined criteria. The conclusion of the thesis identifies suitable situations for the use of each method and formulates recommendations for practice.
