Long distance relationship in emerging adulthood: Womens strategy of relationship maintenance in the context of romantic alternatives

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá oblastí vztahové údržby v kontextu romantických alternativ u mladých žen ve vztahu na dálku. Cílem bylo zodpovědět, jak ženy prezentují svou nedostupnost romantickým alternativám, jak vnímají jejich přítomnost a jaké využívají strategie, které jsou v tomto kontextu využívány jako vztahová údržba. Prostřednictvím techniky rozhovoru a analýzou založenou na principech metody zakotvené teorie jsou mapována klíčová témata, přičemž je důraz kladen především na zachycení subjektivní perspektivy. Výzkumný soubor byl tvořen devíti respondentkami, které splňovaly kritérium věku v rozmezí 18. a 25. let a mají právě probíhající vztah na dálku, který byl ve výzkumu operacionalizován s důrazem na subjektivní prožívání. Výsledky ukazují, že ženy vnímají přítomnost romantických alternativ. V tomto vnímání se však lišila udávaná míra obtížnosti v rezistenci vůči nim, v které přijímaly zodpovědnost za svůj postoj a rozhodnutí setrvat v současném vztahu. Zájem ze stran romantických alternativ byl považován spíše za nežádoucí, projevila se řada strategií, jak okolí informovat o svém současném stavu ve vztahu a prezentovat tak svou nedostupnost. Stejně tak se ukázala velká rozmanitost v konkrétních strategiích v rezistenci, v kterých ženy pracovaly s představami, srovnáváním, způsoby limitující interakce s alternativami a vyvoláváním citů.

Abstract:

Thesis aims on relationship maintence in the context of romantic alternatives focusing on young women in long distance relationship. The research goals focus on which way women represented their unavailability for another romantic relationship, how perceive the presence of romantic alternatives and which strategies women use as relationship maitenance in this conditions. Using the technique of interview and analysis based on principles of grounded theory method, the key topics are identified, placing focus especially on the subjective perspective. The research sample consisted of nine responders who fulfill the terms of the age between 18 and 25 years old and are in the current long-distance relationship, which was operationalized with an emphasis on subjective experience for research. Accoriding the results women perceive the presence of romantic alternatives. This perceiving is different in degree of diffuculty of resisting to alternatives. Women accept responsibility for their attitude and decision of persevering in current relationship. Interest of romantic alternatives was experienced as undesirable, lot of different strategies demonstrating current relationship have shown. The varied of specific strategies of resisting also have shown. In these strategies women using imagination, comparing, limitation of interaction with alternatives and recalling of feelings in purpose.
