Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem důstojnosti v textech Ernesta Hemingwaye. Práce zkoumá vliv Hemingwayova života na jeho psaní a po rozboru důstojnosti z filosofického hlediska zkoumá její výskyt u hrdinů románů i povídek. Zabývá se i motivy pro použití tématu důstojnosti a možnými vlivy na čtenáře. V rámci práce jsou rozebrána čtenářsky úspěšná díla Fiesta; Sbohem, armádo; Komu zvoní hrana a Stařec a moře. K románům jsou přidány dvě povídky zabývající se tématem důstojnosti a důstojné smrti a to Sněhy na Kilimandžáru a Čistý, dobře osvětlený podnik.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyses the theme of dignity in the works of Ernest Hemingway. It deals with following texts: The Sun Also Rises, Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea. Short stories are represented by “The Snow of Kilimanjaro” and “The Clean, Well-lighted Place.” This study examines the use of dignity, its connection with Hemingway′s life, whether the main characters possess it and what effect it has on the reader. Another point was to establish the reason for its use. Philosophical studies on dignity were used to determine its attributes.
