Abstract:

This thesis deals with thematic analysis of the comic books series The Sandman written by Neil Gaiman. The theoretical framework will depict the individual .literary elements ? setting, characters, plot, structure, and themes. The work will be examined by the chosen critical approach, i.e. the mythological and archetypal one. The thesis will also deal with the graphic format of the series. The theoretical background will be applied on the series in the second, practical, part. The aim is to analyse the main themes that appear within the series.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá tematickou analýzou komiksové série Sandman, kterou napsal Neil Gaiman. V teoretické části bude nastíněna podstata jednotlivých literárních elementů ? prostředí, postavy, děj, struktura a téma. Dílo bude zkoumáno v rámci zvoleného kritického přístupu, tj. mytologického a archetypálního. Práce se bude také zabývat grafickou podobou díla. V druhé, praktické, části budou tyto teoretické poznatky aplikovány na dílo samotné, a to s cílem analyzovat hlavní témata, která se v díle objevují.
