Comparison of textbooks and geography schooling in Czechia and New South Wales

Abstract:

Magisterská práce posuzuje a porovnává, jaké možnosti k práci pro učitele a žáky nabízejí geografické učebnice a pracovní sešity vybraných nakladatelství v Česku a Novém Jižním Walesu, a zároveň rozšiřuje poznatky o výuce geografie na školách obou zemí. Pomocí kvantitativní a obsahové analýzy a následné komparace byly zkoumány vybrané učebnice geografie pro základní a střední školy v Česku a odpovídající učebnice v Novém Jižním Walesu, a to na příkladu učiva o Africe. Práce se taktéž zaměřuje na srovnání vybraných aspektů vzdělávání v obou zemích, jako jsou odlišnosti organizace školního roku a změny v kurikulárních dokumentech. Předmět analýzy představují nonverbální prvky, učební úlohy a rozložení učebního obsahu na stránce. Nonverbální prvky jsou analyzovány z hlediska typu a jejich zastoupení. Analýza učebních úloh se zaměřuje na jejich náročnost posuzovanou dle revidované Bloomovy taxonomie hladin kognitivních cílů. Rozložení obsahu na stránce posuzuje množství slov věnovaných učebnímu textu a učebním úlohám a nakonec grafické podobě stránky.

Abstract:

The master thesis assesses and compares which possibilities of work offer geography textbooks and workbooks for teachers and students of selected publishing houses in Czechia and New South Wales, and at the same time broadens the knowledge about geography schooling in both countries. Selected textbooks for elementary schools and high schools in Czechia, and corresponding textbooks in New South Wales, were researched using quantitative and content analysis and further comparison on the example of the learning content of Africa. The subject of the analysis is graphic material, learning tasks and layout of the content on the page. Graphic material is analysed in terms of its type and represented amount. The analysis of learning tasks focuses on its difficulty assessed according to Bloom's revised taxonomy of the levels of cognitive aims. The layout of the content on the page evaluates the number of words dedicated to learning text and learning tasks and further the graphic details of the page.
