The Problematisation of Unbelonging in Jakob Julius David's "Das königliche Spiel" and Stefan Zweig's "Schachnovelle"

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the problematization of non-belonging (Unzugehörigkeit) in the works Das königliche Spiel by Jakob Julius David and Schachnovelle by Stefan Zweig. The aim of the thesis is to clarify how the characters in the chosen works do not belong to their social environment, with an emphasis on the loss of the homeland (Heimat). The thesis considers the socio-economic and political situation at the time of the works creation, mainly in the territory of today's Austria. The practical part then reveals specific passages and motivations of the characters in which the question of non-belonging is reflected.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa zameriava na problematizáciu nepatrenia (Unzugehörigkeit) v dielach Das königliche Spiel od Jakoba Juliusa Davida a Schachnovelle od Stefana Zweiga. Cieľom práce je objasniť akým spôsobom sa vo vybraných dielach prejavuje nepatrenie postáv do ich sociálneho prostredia, s dôrazom na tematiku straty domoviny (Heimat). Práca prihliada na vplyv dobovej socio-ekonomickej a politickej situácie prevažne na území dnešného Rakúska. Na základe týchto poznatkov následne odhaľuje v praktickej časti konkrétne pasáže a motivácie postáv, v ktorých sa otázka nepatrenia odzrkadľuje.
