Záměrem této práce je posoudit jaký význam má popularita žánru povídek v kanadské literatuře a společnosti. Pomocí vybraných povídek prozkoumám různé aspekty společnosti (jako je kultura, pohlaví, pocit spolupatřičnosti a ponětí o rodině a domově), a jak jsou tyto aspekty představované v příbězích. The intention of this thesis is to examine the significance of the popularity of the short story genre in the Canadian literature and society via a chosen set of short stories. I am exploring this subject by examining the various aspects of society (such as culture, gender, the feeling of displacement and the notions of family and home) and how they are represented in the stories.
