Visualization of entity relationships in Perun system

Abstract:

Perun je systém pro správu uživatelů, služeb, výpočetních prostředků a řízení přístupu k těmto prostředkům a službám. Pro přístup k výpočetním prostředkům se uživatelé sdružují do virtuálních organizací, v jichž se dále mohou seskupovat do skupin. Správu nad těmito entitami zajišťuje webové rozhraní. Tomuto rozhraní byla vyčítána nepřehlednost a nemožnost snadno zjistit vztahy mezi některými entitami. Cílem této práce bylo vytvořit aplikaci s grafickým rozhraním, která přehledně vizualizuje vztahy vybraných entit v systému Perun. Nová aplikace vizualizuje dva případy vztahů mezi vybranými entitami pomocí hierarchického orientovaného grafu. Prvním případem je vizualizace všech skupin ve virtuální organizaci. Druhým případem je nalezení všech cest od uživatele k výpočetnímu prostředku skrze službu. Součástí je také návrh metriky pro srovnání současného rozhraní a vytvořené aplikace.

Abstract:

Perun is a system for managing users, services, computing device and managing access to these devices and services. For access to computing devices, users are grouped into virtual organizations, in which they can gather into groups. The management of these entities is provided by the web interface. This interface has been blamed for lack of clarity and the inability to easily identify the relationships between some entities. The aim of this bachelor thesis was to create an application with a graphical interface that with clarity visualizes the relations of selected entities in the Perun system. The new application visualizes two cases of relationships between selected entities using a hierarchical graph. The first case is the visualization of all groups in the virtual organization. The second case is to find all paths from the user to the computing device through the service. Part of bachelor thesis also include a metric to compare the current interface and the created application.
