Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the history of Chinatowns in the USA and their development especially from the economic, social and cultural point of view. The early times of the Chinese immigration are described here as well as formation of Chinatowns and the economic, political and cultural life of their residents. Comparison of old and new Chinatowns and the view of the Chinese community as a model minority are also dealt with in this thesis. I paid attention also to the criminality in Chinatowns. The main aim of this thesis was to describe Chinatown in its complexity.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na historii čínských čtvrtí v USA a jejich vývoj především z hlediska ekonomického, společenského a kulturního. Jsou zde stručně popsány počátky čínské imigrace, vznik čínských čtvrtí a ekonomický, politický a kulturní život jejich obyvatel. Součástí této práce je také srovnání starých a nových čínských čtvrtí a pohled na čínskou komunitu jako na modelovou menšinu. Pozornost je zde věnována také kriminalitě v čínských čtvrtích. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo popsat čínskou čtvrť jako celek zahrnující všechny tyto body.
