Discrepancy between actual self and ideal self, relationships to negative affects: a comparison of believers and nonbelievers

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o tématu diskrepance mezi současným a ideálním Já a emocí, jež se s tímto rozporem pojí. Empirická část je zaměřena v rámci této problematiky na porovnání skupiny věřících a nevěřících osob.V teoretické části věnované psychologii jáství jsem se pokusila vymezit koncept možných Já a funkce těchto mentálních reprezentací v rámci sebepojetí. K diskuzi a dalšímu zkoumání předkládám otázku rozdílu síly motivace negativních a pozitivních možných Já a s tím spojenou jejich rovnováhu (balance). Dále jsem se zaměřila na problematiku diskrepancí mezi Já. Zde zmiňuji hlavní teorie vztahující se k tomuto tématu a empirické studie, na základě jejichž výsledků jsem se pokusila poukázat na vlivy, které by mohly působit na míru sebe-diskrepance či na její redukci. Další související oblastí jsou negativní emoce, které vznik diskrepance mezi Já provázejí. Zde dávám do souvislosti druhy negativních emocí s druhy sebe-diskrepancí. V souvislosti s prožíváním sebe-diskrepance považuji za klíčový fenomén tzv. sebe-uvědomování, o kterém pojednávám v samostatné kapitole. Dále jsem se zabývala v souvislosti s touto tématikou skupinou věřících osob. Ve svém výzkumu jsem si dala za úkol zodpovědět otázku,zda je možné naleznout rozdíly v míře sebe-diskrepance a negativních emocí u skupiny věřících osob s porovnání s nevěřícími. Na základě již provedených výzkumů jsem předpokládala, že obě proměnné budou zjištěny ve větší míře u skupiny věřících. Moje hypotéza se zakládala především na předpokladu vyšší míry sebe-uvědomování v rámci procesu pokání u těchto osob a také vysoké osobní význačnosti křesťanských standardů. Předpoklad rozdílu mezi mírami sebe-diskrepance se dle zjištěných výsledků nepotvrdil. V celkové sebe-diskrepanci dosáhli obě skupiny podobných hodnot. Také jednotlivé sebe-diskrepance se výrazně nelišily, až na diskrepanci v oblasti financí, kde jsem zjistila významný rozdíl. Při porovnání jednotlivých emocí byl největší rozdíl zjištěn u pocitu beznaděje. Ačkoliv můj výzkum neprokázal výrazné rozdíly v oblasti diskrepancí mezi věřícími a nevěřícími, doporučovala bych další zkoumání tohoto tématu. Některé konkrétní návrhy jsou uvedeny v závěru práce.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the discrepancy between actual and ideal self and affects, which are connected with this conflict. Empirical part is focused on comparing the group of believers and nonbelievers. In the theoretical part, which is devoted to self-psychology, I defined the concept of the possible selves and their functions in self-concept. I suggest the question of the difference of negative vs. positive possible selves´ motivation as well as their balance for further discussion and exploration. Furthermore I focused on the discrepancy between selves. There are noticed the main theories relating to these problems. On the basic of mentioned empirical studies I tried to point to influences, which could effect the extent of self-discrepancy and its reduction. Another topic is negative affects, which are connected with the genesis of the self-discrepancy. Here I mentioned kinds of negative affects within the self-discrepancies´ types. As key phenomen connected with experience of self-dicrepancy I consider self-awareness, which I present in separate chapter. Next I concerned to this problem connected with believers. In empirical part, I tried to answer question, whether it is possible to find the differencies in self-discrepancies and negative affects between groups of believers and nonbelievers. On the basic of presented studies I assumed that both variables will be found in more extend within group of believers. This hypothesis will not be confirmed. The similar rates was found in summary self-discrepancy at both groups. The same founds were measured in each self-discrepancy. The exception was the self-discrepancy of financial, where the significant difference was found. When I compare the various affects, the biggest difference was found in the affect of hopeless. Although my research didn´t prove the significant differencies between believers and nonbelievers, I would recommend further exploration of this topic. The factual suggestion of these explorations are mentioned in conclusion of the tract.
