The interferrence and error in the procunciation of the glottal stop by Czech students of Spanish as a foreign language

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the wrong pronunciation of the glottal stop, or glottal plosive, by Czech students of Spanish. Although this phonetic phenomenon does not occur in Spanish, it is very common for the Czech learners of Spanish to pronounce it. This paper, therefore, presents a theoretical basis of acquiring the pronunciation of the mother tongue and the foreign language, including the factors that influence this process. We focus on the didactic anchoring of the glottal stop in Spanish as an error caused by a negative interference of Czech. The aim of this thesis is to find out, based on an empirical experiment with Czech students of Spanish, whether the glottal stop is pronounced more often by older beginners or by advanced young students. This thesis also discusses factors that influence such interference and the resulting mispronunciations, and proposes a didactic solution.

Diplomová práce La interferencia y el error en la pronunciación de la oclusiva glotal en los alumnos checos de E/LE se zabývá chybnou výslovností glotální okluzivy, tj. rázu, u českých studentů španělštiny. Přestože se tento fonetický jev ve španělštině nevyskytuje, realizace rázu je u českých studentů španělštiny velmi častá. Práce proto představuje teoretická východiska osvojování výslovnosti mateřského a cizího jazyka včetně faktorů, které tento proces ovlivňují. Zaměřujeme se na didaktické ukotvení glotální okluzivy ve španělštině jako chyby způsobené negativní interferencí češtiny. Cílem práce je na základě empirického experimentu s českými studenty španělštiny zjistit, zda je ráz realizován častěji u studentů začátečníků vyššího věku nebo u pokročilých mladších studentů. Následně se věnuje diskuzi faktorů, které mají vliv na interferenci a výslednou chybnou výslovnost, a navrhuje didaktické řešení.
